Pan de muerto
Pan de Muerto is one of the most traditional breads that is celebrated from October 31st to November 2. While many may think that there is only one type of Day of the Dead bread, but that would be a lie. Depending on the regions of Mexico, there may be several bread differencesdepending from one state to another. Juquilita Bakery offers 3 types of Day of the Dead bread:the most recognized bread is the one coated with sugar in the shape of the cross, the one with red sugar that comes from the state of Puebla, and the Oaxacan style egg yolk bread that contains a face in each bread that is made out of flour and painted with food coloring. Although the Yema (egg yolk) Bread is the most preferred in the state of Oaxaca during the Day of the Dead season, egg yolk bread is a bread that is offered all year-round with the exception of the face not in the bread anymore.
rosca de reyes
The Rosca de Reyes is a bread celebrated on January 6 recognized as the day of the kings. That day is when children traditionally receive gifts from the three wise men. It usually contains a figurine representing the baby Jesus, but the thread of us normally contains 2.3, or 4 specifically in the size of the thread. The hidden figurine symbolizes when Mary and Joseph hid in Jesus to save him from the Massacre of the Innocents of King Herod. He who finds the baby Jesus is blessed and must take him to church on February 2. Traditionally in Mexico, the same person who discovers the baby jesus figurine must take it to the church for a blessing,as well as organize a dinner that normally consists of tamales and atole for the guests.
